#IMWAYR – 8/15/16

Gooood morning, fellow readers and bloggers!

This is my second installment of #IMWAYR It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? I hope everyone had an amazing weekend wherever you are in the world!  We are on the East Coast and it was HOT!

Finished Reading

Well, it took a few weeks, but I finished Annie Barrows’ The Truth According to Us. It was okay, but I didn’t love it. I didn’t really find any of the characters particularly likable. I finished it because it wasn’t horrible, but I’m glad to have it finished. This is not a book I will recommend.

Currently Reading

I’m now onto Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney’s The Nest. Like The Help, it took me a couple of chapters to really like what I was reading and want to continue reading. I haven’t read enough to know if I am going to love it as much as I loved The Help but I can say that last night, as I was reading, I found myself really enjoying the character of Francie, the family matriarch.

I’m also still reading, in bits and pieces, John Holt’s How Children LearnRaising Cain by Dan Kindlon, and Masterminds & Wingmen by Rosalind Wisemen.

I don’t know anything about Matilda! Chapter books good for read aloud? I’ll check them out!! I LOVE Ramona, she is also one of my favorites!! Raising Cain is excellent!

Another Ramona fan here! I loved the books when I read them (or they were read to me) in the 70s, and they hold up so well. I still occasionally assign one (usually Ramona and Her Father) in my Children’s Lit class. You’ve got a lot of books going right now! So do I…. so many, in fact, that I can’t seem to make progress and finish anything. I really like the cover of The Nest.

Why Ramona and Her Father? I do have a few books. The nonfiction are always the most challenging to read. I’m halfway through The Nest. It’s good!
